Step-by-Step DTF Application Instructions
Step 1: Preheat Your Heat Press
Set your heat press to the recommended temperature and pressure. Allow the machine to reach the desired temperature before starting. Make sure the heat press provides even heat and consistent pressure across the printing surface.
Step 2: Pre-Press Your Garment
Place your garment flat on the heat press and pre-press for 3–5 seconds to remove excess moisture and wrinkles. This helps create a smooth surface for better transfer adhesion.
Step 3: Position Your DTF Transfer
Place your DTF transfer with the printed design facing the fabric in the desired position. Ensure the design is properly aligned and the garment is smooth. Keep seams, zippers, and thick edges away from the pressing area when possible.
Step 4: Heat Press Your Design
Press the transfer using the recommended temperature, time, and pressure for your specific film and garment. Apply even pressure throughout the entire design to help the adhesive bond properly with the fabric.
Step 5: Peel the Transfer Film
Carefully remove the carrier film according to the transfer's hot-peel, warm-peel, or cold-peel instructions.
Do not assume every DTF transfer is hot peel. Removing the film at the wrong temperature can cause lifting or incomplete adhesion.
Step 6: Final Press for Better Durability
If recommended for your transfer, cover the design with parchment paper or a suitable finishing sheet and press again for 5–10 seconds.
This finishing step can help improve the print's appearance, feel, and adhesion.
DTF Transfer Washing & Care Instructions
To help extend the life of your printed garments:
-
Wait approximately 24 hours before the first wash, unless your transfer instructions state otherwise.
-
Turn garments inside out before washing.
-
Wash in cold or cool water using mild detergent.
-
Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
-
Air dry when possible or tumble dry on low heat.
-
Do not iron directly over the printed design.
-
Avoid dry cleaning unless the transfer and garment manufacturer confirm compatibility.
Common DTF Pressing Mistakes to Avoid
-
Incorrect Temperature: Too much heat can damage the print or fabric, while insufficient heat may prevent proper adhesion.
-
Uneven Pressure: Inconsistent pressure can cause lifting, especially around design edges.
-
Wrong Peel Method: Always follow the specific transfer's peeling instructions.
-
Moisture in Fabric: Pre-press garments to remove moisture and wrinkles.
-
Stretching Immediately After Pressing: Allow the design to cool and settle before stretching or handling aggressively.
